He trained in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Nottingham. Prior to being appointed as Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon at the Nottingham Breast Institute (where he is the lead for breast surgery), he was Senior Lecturer in Breast Surgery, University of Nottingham. Prior to that he was visiting fellow in breast surgery at the Edinburgh breast unit and before that he was a surgical trainee in Glasgow (where he undertook an MD thesis in aspects of breast conserving surgery for breast cancer) and other hospitals in the west of Scotland. He qualified in medicine at the University of Glasgow in 1988.

Mr Thomas has been a Consultant Surgeon at Epsom and St Helier Hospitals since 1996. He leads a comprehensive vascular service working with two other vascular surgeons and three interventional radiologists. He provides a laparoscopic hernia service in day surgery and is also lead clinician for thyroid surgery in the Trust. He is committed to medical education.   He qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1978 and trained at various London Hospitals prior to completion of Higher Surgical Training on the South West Thames Rotation working on the Professorial Units at St George’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, the Royal Marsden and outlying District General Hospitals. This included overseas training in Cape Town and on laparoscopic units in France.   He has ten years experience of ultrasound scanning and can provide a one-stop diagnostic service for vascular patients in outpatients.
