One of the earliest psychology societies was La Société de Psychologie Physiologique in France, which lasted 1885–1893. The first meeting of the International Congress of Psychology took place in Paris, in August 1889, amidst the World's Fair celebrating the centennial of the French Revolution. William James was one of three Americans among the four hundred attendees. The American Psychological Association was founded soon after, in 1892. The International Congress continued to be held, at different locations in Europe, with wider international participation. The Sixth Congress, Geneva 1909, included presentations in Russian, Chinese, and Japanese, as well as Esperanto . After a hiatus for World War I, the Seventh Congress met in Oxford, with substantially greater participation from the war-victorious Anglo-Americans. In 1929, the Congress took place at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, attended by hundreds of members of the American Psychological Association Tokyo Imperial University led the way in bringing the new psychology to the East, and from Japan these ideas diffused into China.
The dissertation project will be based on a critical literature review addressing complex and contradictory evidence and will usually require carrying out an empirical study using one or more methodologies of data collection such as experiments, observation, psychometric testing, surveys and questionnaires, interviews and field studies. In all cases, the dissertation will involve the analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative data, as well as the presentation and critical evaluation of research findings. Through independent study and meetings with a project supervisor, the dissertation project will allow students to better understand the role of research methodologies, theoretical considerations and ethical issues in psychological research.
Bullying is something that can be prevented. This has to be handled by parents and school staff. Parents can help children understand what bullying is and explain to the children that bullying is bad. Teachers too should get involved and educate children on the harmful effects of bullying. The most opportune time to prevent bullying is before it begins. Schools should build rules against bullying and bullies should be punished. Teaching children to handle a bully is also a good way of preventing further problems. Bullies get away with bullying because they can. Once they understand that they cannot get away with it, they stop. A clear, calm “no” while looking in the bully’s eye is one way to handle a bully. However, sometimes this does not work. Children should be advised and encouraged to consider outside help before the bullying escalates.
